Tears reading this. Incredible insight as a compassionate physician who sees so much each and every day. You have a vast, caring heart for your patients and their families - and it clearly shows in your writings, and in your personal experiences with your patients. Keep it up, Doctor.

Thank you so much for your comment! I'm in the early moments of my career and already have a few stories... I can't imagine the stories you have in oncology.
This episode with Carol reminds me of a day at Zion Hospital in Illinois when my father, your grandfather passed away. He remained tough through his whole experience there and I was privileged to spend his last night with him in his hospital room. I know he was talking to Jesus and the angels in a language I could not understand. It was very surreal. But it was my honor and privilege to spend his last hours with him. I am sorry I wasn't at Marquardt when Grandma passed away. They called me at 4AM to tell me she had passed and when I got there she was still warm. I know they are both in a happy place and so is Carol. I love you so much for caring for your vulnerable patients. Dr. Petersen!!!

You are very kind - I'm happy you enjoyed the piece! Thanks for your support!
Wow. Such a well written piece. The part on provider burden was eloquently stated. It’s what I find the biggest emotional challenge in oncology.
